At The Gadsden Regional Cancer Center, we utilize the most advanced machine for the delivery of radiation therapy, The Varian TrueBeam.
Our modern facilities are equipped with the latest technology and equipment to provide the best possible cancer care. From advanced imaging technology to precision radiation therapy, we have everything we need to fight cancer.
Dr. Kevin Lee has been providing cancer care for years. He is dedicated to staying up-to-date on the latest treatment methods and providing compassionate care to every patient.
Low-dose rate (LDR) brachytherapy for the treatment of prostate cancer is a long established treatment with excellent cure rates across a wide variety of prostate cancer risk groups. While many urology and radiation oncology groups have discontinued this treatment option due to low reimbursement and logistical challenges, our local urology partners (https://clinicalurology.com/ and https://rmccares.org/services/urology/) and Kevin Lee, radiation oncology, continue to have a thriving LDR prostate program, treating dozens of patients each year with this convenient and effective technology.
Women who are being treated for breast cancer often require radiation to the whole breast to decrease the risk of cancer recurrence. Treating the whole breast in the typical supine position (laying on your back) can sometimes lead to too much radiation dose going to the lung, which sits just below the breast. At Gadsden Regional, we utilize a "prone breast board" for women who can lay on their stomach. This allows the breast tissue to fall forward away from the lung and to decrease lung radiation dose. Not all women are candidates for this treatment option. Ask your radiation oncologist for more details.
We are committed to advancing cancer research and treatment, which is why we offer access to clinical trials for eligible patients. These trials can provide cutting-edge treatments and therapies that are not yet available to the general public.

Optical Surface Monitoring Systems (OSMS) is particularly useful for stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) treatments. This ensures millimeter set-up accuracy for precise delivery of high dose per fraction radiation.
Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) / Volumetric Modulated Arc Radiotherapy (VMAT) enabled precise targeting of tumors with sparing of normal tissue close by evening sites deep inside the body like the prostate or the lung.
Three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT) is also used to deliver effective radiation to appropriately selected patients.
Our Six Degree of Freedom Treatment Table (6 DoF couch) was newly added in 2023 and allows us to shift patients to obtain near-perfect alignment for their treatment delivery.
All of the CT scans that we capture for treatment are three-dimensional representations of the patient anatomy. With Varian's Real-time Position Management (RPM) system, we can capture the fourth dimension of time.
For patients whose tumors may move substantially during treatment (like lung cancer for esophageal cancer patients), our planning CT scan will be captured over the patient's entire breathing cycle. We can then watch the tumor move up and down on the scan and ensure accurate targeting of the tumor at all times during treatment delivery.
In order to decrease the treatment margins required in radiation delivery, we use onboard imaging with daily cone beam CT (CBCT) and kV image alignment to ensure precise targeting of tumors deep inside the body.
For patients with hyperthyroidism that is not responsive to medicines, radioactive iodine (RAI) ablation with an oral tablet of radioactive iodine can decrease the production of thyroid hormone and decrease the side effects of hyperthyroidism.
For patients with some types of thyroid cancers, radioactive iodine may help decrease risk of cancer recurrence.
